🇮🇳 National Current Affairs
1. Modified UDAN Scheme
The Union Cabinet approved the Modified UDAN Scheme for the period 2026–27 to 2035–36. The scheme has been approved with an outlay of ₹28,840 crore and aims to develop 100 new airports and 200 helipads to improve regional air connectivity.
2. Supreme Court Judges' Strength Increased
Parliament passed the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, increasing the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges from 34 to 38. The increase is aimed at reducing the pending cases before the apex court.
3. 6th Positive Indigenisation List
The Ministry of Defence released the 6th Positive Indigenisation List, covering 405 defence items. These items will be procured domestically, helping reduce India's dependence on defence imports.
4. Sikkim Gets Paperless Judiciary
Sikkim became the first state in India to have a fully paperless judiciary. The new digital system covers court management across all levels of the state's judicial system.
5. GOBARdhan Scheme
The Union Cabinet approved the GOBARdhan (National Circular Bioenergy) Scheme with an allocation of ₹23,731 crore. The scheme focuses on increasing biogas production and converting organic waste into useful resources.
6. High-Altitude Medical Research Centre
The Ministry of Health laid the foundation stone for India's first High-Altitude Medicine and Tribal Health Research Center in Lahaul-Spiti, Himachal Pradesh. The centre will focus on medical research and healthcare needs in high-altitude and tribal areas.
7. Kargil Vijay Diwas
India observed the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26. The day commemorates India's victory in the 1999 Kargil War and honours the soldiers who lost their lives defending the country.
8. Exercise MAITREE-XV
The Indian Army participated in the 15th edition of Exercise MAITREE with the Thai Army in Surat Thani, Thailand. The exercise is aimed at improving cooperation and coordination between the armed forces of India and Thailand.
9. Ganga Expressway
Key completed stretches of the 594-km Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh were opened. The expressway is expected to improve connectivity between different parts of the state and support economic and industrial development.
10. ITBP All-Women Everest Expedition
An all-women team of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest. The achievement marked an important milestone for the force's women personnel.

11. Mecca Trilateral Defence Pact
Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed a mutual defence agreement in Mecca. Under the agreement, an attack on one member would be treated as an attack on all three countries.
12. US–Iran Peace Framework
The United States and Iran reached a 14-point framework aimed at reducing tensions in West Asia. The agreement covers issues such as de-escalation, navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear monitoring.
13. India–Japan Annual Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart held the 16th India–Japan Annual Summit. The two countries discussed stronger cooperation in defence and other strategic areas, including the UNICORN stealth antenna system.
14. India–Cyprus Strategic Partnership
India and Cyprus upgraded their bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership during the visit of Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides to India.
15. Fields Medal 2026
The International Mathematical Union (IMU) announced the winners of the 2026 Fields Medals at the International Congress of Mathematicians. The Fields Medal is one of the highest honours in mathematics.
16. Global Liveability Index 2026
Copenhagen remained the world's most liveable city in the EIU Global Liveability Index 2026. Vienna and Zurich were placed second and third respectively.
17. Hurun Global Unicorn Index 2026
The Hurun Global Unicorn Index 2026 recorded 1,603 unicorn companies worldwide. India ranked fourth globally in terms of the number of unicorns.
18. WMO Climate Warning
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) highlighted the increasing impact of El Niño and marine heatwaves in parts of South and East Asia. The latest observations pointed to continued concerns over rising temperatures and extreme weather conditions.
